Please Help Us To Look After These Cats

We have more up dates on our SOS cats coming very soon, so please come back to see if there is anyone you can help.

Each of these cats needed to go the vets from the streets as an emergency by a Twinkle volunteer & is undergoing treatment at the Twinkle farmhouse or by one of the few cat fosterer's we are lucky enough to have. Can you help us to pay for the upkeep & treatment that these cats desperately need.

We know times are hard but we reley entirley on donations from the public. We have noticed a big dip in donations and a big increase in the number of cats which are being abandoned, please help us to care for these cats which would have otherwise been left to suffer.

Donate on-line - When you donate, don't forget to tell us which cat you wish to help.

Click [here] to donate by standing order.

Click [here] to donate by cheque.

Above each cat is the amount of money needed to be spent on him/her, so far. Every day this figure grows.

Some cats we help will have to be released back onto the streets when they are better because we just don't have the space or the new homes to keep them all.

For the cats we cannot release we are looking for a 'forever' home. If you are interested in adopting any of the cats or kittens shown below, contact Jenny at twinkletrust@aol.com or UK mobile 07958-990471.

We also have cats in need of homes on our 'cat's for rehoming page' . We do ask for a donation upon adoption of an animal, to give you an idea, we generally ask for a minimum donation of €50 per cat/kitten, this goes towards the veterinary bills, cat food and litter cost's. In certain circumstances, this can be adjusted depending on the animal adopte.

I'm Little (when I get bigger I hope to get a real name)

Cost so far €45

Donation so far € 0

In June a holiday maker from Lajares called us in tears, asking if we could help a young kitten, that was sick and homeless. Although we have no room and we are not a rescue centre, we had to help. The holiday maker was going back home the next day and was worried this 'little' guy would die if left alone. After sorting out how we could get the kitten to us, we took him in and then went straight to the vets so he could be checked over. 'Little' was suffering from cat-'flu' symptoms and was underweight. He's been on antibiotics and has since put on weight. He's a great character and would love a new home - can anyone help ?

I'm Chica

Cost so far €45

Donation so far €15,€10, £50

This young female was found near a bus stop. People had heard her crying for 2 days but could not see her. She must of been so desperate because when a car pulled up at the bust stop this little cat crawled to the car door, as if to say, 'I'm here - don't leave me behind'. Although she was covered in fleas and dirt, we couldn't see any injuries, she was just very dehydrated and starving. After a big drink of water and 2 small meals, she curled up and went to sleep.

UPDATE !We noticed Chica was limping not long after she came into us. She has been to the vets and he thinks at some point she has been hit by a car. Thankfully Chica does not appear to have any broken bones but she does have some muscle wastage in this leg. She is now having daily medication for the pain and in time the damaged musle should repair and compensate. With cage rest and TLC should should be fine. Because of her pale colour and sun burnt ears we hope to rehome her once she is fit, well and sterilised.

  After her much needed meal.

I'm Honey

Cost so far €63

Donation so far €65

I have lived at the bins in the zoo all my life, Twinkle sterilised me a few years ago. I always try and help the Twinkle ladies when thier out catching at my bins, by rubbing up against the trap to show all the other cats what to do. I caught cat-'flu' when I was a kitten, so now & again I become very sneezey.Over the last few weeks I've been very sick, the cat--'flu' had made my eyes so sticky I couldn't open them andmy nose was so blocked I could not eat or breath easily.

After lots of treatment and TLC I'm much better. I was going to go back to the bins once I was better but because I'm an old lady and love cuddles Twinkle is trying to find me a nice home. I'm very playful and full of mischief. Can you love me and give me a home?

Update !As no home could be found in Fuerteventura for Honey, we have decided to keep her and now she lives happily with the rest of the Twinkle cats at our farm house.

I'm Rico      "Sad News"

Cost so far €365 for pain medicine, hospital stay, x-rays & for the operation.

Donation so far €125 & €342.62 (from Kenny, his fans and Family)

At just 11 weeks old Little Rico had already I've had a tough time.No Mum,No home and Nobody that cared. When Twinkle volunteer Cherry picked Rico up, he had a broken leg, we made the decision to undertake surgery to pin the break, it was the only alternative to putting him to sleep. The operation went ahead even though it was a large amount of money for us to find, we just had to give him a chance.

The operation was a success and we hoped after 3 months the pin would be removed and finally little Rico could really start enjoying life in his new home where he was safe and loved.

Sadly, Rico started having breathing problems and had to go back to the vets, upon arrival he was examined, it was clear something serious was wrong, after x-rays and tested it was discovered his chest & lungs were full of fluid, there was nothing that could be done to save him.To spare Rico any further distress he was put to sleep by the vet. The cause for the fluid build up is not related to his injury or operation, it could be he had disease called FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). The clinical sign of effusive FIP is the accumulation of fluid within the abdomen or chest.

Rest in peace little Rico - only with us for a short time but will be loved forever.

Rico leg with the pin in place.

I'm Peaches

Cost so far €283 (this includes her emergency vet treatment, medication plus her eye & spay operations.

Donation so far €0

Peaches just turned up in our garden last May. She was in a terrible condition. She has no teeth, one of her eyes was torn and literally hanging down, she was also starved of food and water. Because she was in such bad condition the vet said before he could operate on her eye she needed to gain some strength (in fact he was doubtful that Peaches would survive). After a few weeks of medication, good food and TLC from Jenny she has improved enough to have her eye operated on and be sterilised. Peaches now looks like a different cat and is doing so well. We don't think she is very old but without having any teeth its hard to estimate her age  but one thing we are sure of, she is a tough little lady with a sweet personality.

Update !As no home could be found in Fuerteventura for Peache's, we have decided to keep her and now she lives happily with the rest of the Twinkle cats at our farm house.

I'm Coco

                                                                  RIP Coco

Cost so far €238

Donation so far €0

Sadly we recently had to have Coco put to sleep. For the past few years, this friendly guy was living as a stray on a complex called Coco Sol, hence his name. Over the last 12 months, we were constantly taking him to the vets because he kept getting sick. He was always suffering from either sore gums, blood in his urine or wounds that would not heal. After his 6th visit to the vets we had Coco tested for feline aid & leukemia but thankfully he was negative but still his condition never really improved with antibiotics. As he was homeless we had no way of monitoring him, so when Cherry (a kind volunteer) had to pick him up again in May, we decided to keep him in for as long as possible (dispute having no room) to see if we were missing something, we couldn't keep releasing him only for him to get sick again and again. We noticed straight away that he was drinking and urinating a lot and eating like a horse. All of these signs can indicate diabetes, so this time we asked our vet to run a series of tests on Coco and the results showed he is diabetic. Diabetes in cats can be managed by twice daily insulin injections and special food. Looking after a cat with diabetes can be daunting at first, you have to be ready every 12 hours to give the insulin injections and ensure the special food is eaten. It can take many weeks to get the insulin dosage right and a lot of visits to the vets to begin with but it can be managed.Coco was a really nice guy, and loved a fuss. Over the last few months we did all we could to try and give him his health back but it was not enough and on the vets advice we had to make the hard decision to let him go.

We spent £230 on his many differant test's plus £42 every single month for his insulin and special diet food. Coco really deserved to be helped, you only had to see him curled up, contented and purring to know we had to give him a chance.

I'm Lotty

Cost so far €83

Donation so far €85

Cherry received a call about a young cat which was injured & stuck down a deep hole. When Cherry (& Mike) arrived at the scene they could see straight away it was impossible for the cat to climb out. We heard it was not the first time this poor cat had been (put) in this hole and that he had been limping for several days. Of course the cat was very scared and seemed petrified by all attempts to get him out of the hole. Eventually Cherry & Mike had him safely in a cat basket and took him to the vets. Our vet carried out and exam and took x-rays and found Lotty had a broken hip and leg !! And he was deaf !! The breaks to his legs were old and had already started to mend,so nothing could be done. Lotty was given medication to relieve his pain but for 2 very good reasons he could not be released back to where he came from. We think someone was deliberately putting him in this hole, because he was deaf he was not able to hear when anyone was approaching him, plus with 2 broken bones he needed to be looked after. So now Lotty is another we have taken in and need to try and rehome. Because he is deaf we have to let him know we are coming or else he jumps out of his skin, he has a really sweet nature and has already made friends with some of our other cats. We would love to be able to find Lotty a new home but until that day comes he is very much part of our family.

He will need regular medication for pain until his broken bones have healed. If you can help towards this cost it would be great for Lotty.

I'm Cindy     (I was called Little Maedchen which means 'little girl')

Cost so far €20                 ! SAD NEW !

Donation so far €25

Our gorgeous little girl 'Cindy' was put to sleep last week. She developed breathing problems and after some test's were carried out she was diagnosed with a type of lung cancer, so on the vets' recommendation we had to let her go. Cindy came to us recently after she had gone blind with old age, she had been living in the grounds of a hotel all her life. She was not with us for very long but she was a most elegant old lady with a gentle, loving nature that touched the very bottom of your heart.
