Please Help Us To Look After These Cats
Each of these cats needed to go the vets from the streets as an emergency by a Twinkle volunteer & is undergoing treatment at the Twinkle farmhouse or by one of the few cat fosterer's we are lucky enough to have. Can you help us to pay for their upkeep & treatment that these cats desperately need.

Above each cat is the amount of money needed to be spent on him/her, so far. Every day this figure grows.
Some cats we help will have to be released back onto the streets when they are better because we just don't have the space or the new homes to keep them all.
Most of the cats on this page are looking for a 'forever' home. If you are interested in adopting any of the cats or kittens shown below, please take a look at our 'cat's for rehoming page' and contact Jenny at Twinkle. We do ask for a donation upon adoption of an animal, to give you an idea, we generally ask for a minimum donation of £45 per cat/kitten. In certain circumstances, this can be adjusted depending on the animal adopte.
Archie Cost so far €45 Donation so far €0 Little Archie was found just sitting by the side of a very busy road near the army barracks, in the main town of Puerto del Rosario. A caring solider had found him and thought Archie was about to die as he was in such a dreadful state.Jenny rushed out and picked Archie up and took him straight to the vets. Archie was suffering from starvation and was weak and in very poor condition. He is only 6-8 weeks old. In the short week we have had him, he has already improved enough to eat on his own and is doing his very best to get better. He is a brave little kitten, full of purrs and affection.
Cybil Cost so far €38 Donation so far €0 Cybil came from a small village called Tetir. A kind Spanish man called us when he found her after she was abandoned by her 'owners'. Left on her own, she obviously had found it very difficult to fend for herself or find enough food. Cybil is a gorgeous 9 month old girl, she was probably no longer wanted when her 'owners' saw just how many kittens she could produce.
Puzzles (Mum) with her kittens Liquorice, Yoyo & Hoho Cost so far €293 Donation so far €50 Donation so far towards Puzzles hip operation £125 While out catching during our November 2009 campaign, volunteers Catherine and Pat spotted a little kitten running around the side of an old derelict building in the village of Antigua. They stopped their car and went to investigate and found a mother cat and her 3 small kittens living in an old ruin. Although the mother and kittens were very wild, they could see straight away that Mum could not use one of her back legs. Although the building was crumbling and looked and sounded like it was going to collapse any minute they bravely went in and set about catching this little family. Mum was taken to the vets for x-rays and indeed needs surgery to her hip. Then she will need a couple of months to recover, so this is what we plan to do.
It will be impossible to release them back to their old environment after several months in our care, one reason is that it is unsafe and the other is that by then the kittens would not be wild anymore and not used to fending for themselves, so we are now trying to find them a foster or permanent home for them all to go to once Mum has recuperated.
Update ! Puzzles is still waiting for her hip operation, the vet wants to wait a bit longer so see how she copes with the leg as it is, now that the kittens are weened. He says Puzzles is not distressed by her injury (even though we are) and shows now signs of pain.
Our vet estimates it will cost a minimum of €250 to operate on Mums hip - can you help us with the expense of this?
Pearl Cost so far €230 Donation so far €0 Donation towards her eye operation € 0 Pearl has been with us since November 2009. She was caught for sterilising during our neutering campaign and we quickly noticed that she has one eye missing and the other is damaged, so her vision is severely impaired. She is a little bit timid but once she feels secure she settles down for a cuddle. She has just had an operation on her right eye to close it up, she had no vision already in this eye and it had remained sore and uncomfortable for her. We hope her life will now become pain free - Can anyone help with the €120 cost of her operation !!
Vinny Cost so far €289 Donation so far €150 We had an urgent call from two concerned holiday makers in Fuerteventura, they had a young cat hanging around the garden of the villa they were staying in. The cat was constantly meowing and its skin was falling off !!. Luckily Catherine and Angela were available to go immediately and collect him. Vinny (as he was quickly christened) received emergency treatment for his severe wounds. The vet tells us that Vinny has been burnt, with what we don't know, he has lost most of his fur and the skin from one side of his body. Vinny is also deaf and his vision is not 100%. Some deaf cats do meow a lot and maybe this is what Vinny was doing, it could be that someone wanted to make him go away or shut him up and threw something hot on him. Dispite his terrible condition he is a nice young cat and as you can see his injury is a lot better.
Vinny when he came to us in September. Vinny now
Dyson Cost so far €1115 Donation so far €0 He was unable to walk properly and wobbled and could not keep his balance. The vet soon saw he had a serious ear infection and acute diarrhoea. Since being with us the ear infection has cleared up but the damage to his inner ear is permanent. We are not sure what hearing loss he has suffered but he will always walk with a wobble, this is especially obvious when he tries to run. He was tested for Feline Aids, Leukemia and a variety of parasites and thankfully there were all negative but to this day he still suffers from diarrhoea. Despite everything that is wrong with him, he is a happy cat and will eat anything - hence his name. He has been on a strict medical diet which is very expensive but his diarrhoea is still a problem. If things don't improve for him, he may have to have surgery to investigate his bowl condition.
Dyson is on special food because of his diarrhea, which is very expensive plus medication every day. can you help towards his vet bills?
Annie Cost so far €183 Donation so far €0 She had been locked in an abandoned car in the blazing heat. After some TLC she has recovered and now all she needs is a home. Annie is a pretty cat and would be happier in a new home with no other cats.
Pookey Cost so far €138 Donation so far €565 A hunter brought him to us in ferret cage. He wanted to keep him but couldn´t because his dogs would kill any cat that came within reach. One of the dogs did actually get Pookey but the man saved him in time. Pookey is a really fun loving cat and would love a home to call his own. He really is as sweet as he looks in this photo.
Sweep Cost so far €147 Donation so far €0 Sweep came to us at about 6 weeks old. She was found in the streets with 2 severe bite wounds on neck, the vet thought she only had a very slim chance of pulling through, she spent the first night in intensive care at the vets but she grew stronger and is now fully grown, fit and well and looking for a new home.
Sooty Cost so far €176 Donation so far €0 Late one night Sooty obviously thought crawling into a car engine was a safe place to sleep, until early the next morning it was turned on by the unsuspecting driver. Luckily, she did not get hurt as the engine started but she was extremely thin and crying in fear. She is now fully grown but so very timid. Can anyone offer her a reassuring home for life?
Ida, Iddy, Inke & Icle Cost so far €1220 Donation so far €95 These 4 siblings came to us around May this year. They came in with their Mum and 3 other siblings. The kittens were only about 7 weeks old and were all suffering from cat flu and 1 had a umbilical hernia. One of the kittens eye's was so bad that she needed to have it removed. In September Mum and the 3 healthy kittens were well enough to be sterilised and then released back to where they came from but Ida,Iddy,Inke and Icle were not strong enough to go back. Now several more months have passed, they are bigger and better and we are trying to rehome them.
These 4 kittens have grown into really loving, sweet cats and ooze affection, they would love a home, can you help?
Alice & Chloe Cost so far €854 Donation so far €100 Their owner died very suddenly & tragically, leaving Alice and Chloe alone. They were locked inside his rented apartment but thanks to a neighbour who realised their plight, we were able to go and remove them from their home just as the landlord was about to clear the apartment. They are inseparable and must stay together in their new home - can you help us find their 'forever home' ?
Roger Cost so far €494 Donation so far €300 Roger was abandoned by his owner when they packed up and left Fuerteventura. He was so confused and afraid he would not leave the patio and just meowed, which annoyed the neighbours and thus we were telephoned. I will never be able to say again, that we Brits are a nation of animal lovers - this has happened so many times and the owners don't even bother to have their pet sterilised before they abandon them, which is totally irresponsible. When Roger went to the vets to be castrated, he only had 1 testicle which had dropped, the other was up inside his abdomen. As if Roger had not already been through enough, he suffered irreversible brain damage due to complications. despite all this he is a happy little cat and deserves a loving home, which he would welcome with 4 paws.
Update - Due to a resent injury Roger needed to have an eye removed on the 20th January. He has recovered well and is still a bundle of curiosity.
Smokey Cost so far €134 Donation so far €0 This pretty little girl was 1 of 3 kittens. The mother had given birth to them in a very small enclosed patio, which was attached to a vacant apartment. The kittens had no way of getting out as they were all about 7 weeks old and could not jump high enough to escape. I'm sure the mother thought she had done a good job with her safe little patio for her kittens but alas some local residents did not want this new vulnerable family to stay where they were. By the time the volunteer had arrived to try and trap them all the mother had vanished along with 2 of the kittens. This left just little Smokey. Although we were and still are full at the house and have no room for any more cats, we had to take Smokey in, as leaving her alone was not an option. At best, she would have managed somehow to escape the walled patio but being on her own at such a young age would have been unsafe, she could not have fended for herself and found food. She is fully grown now and sterilised, so we are trying to rehome her.
Rocky Cost so far €174 Donation so far €50 Rocky was seen by some holiday makers and they noticed he was unwell. He was seen by the vet and given medication to help him fight off an infection and was also under weight and of course not sterilised. Rocky is much better and we have sterilised him.
Rocky has FIV (Feline Aids) so he cannot go back to where is was found, so we are trying to find him a new home - can you help. He is very friendly and loves other cats.
Hero Cost so far €131 Donation so far €50 We don't know how but his mother had been killed and by the time hero was found by a little boy he was scarcely alive, he is another the vet thought may not live to see the next day. Hero is a tough little guy and has made a wonderful come back - He is now 6 months old and looking for a new home.
Hero is the white and tabby one, being pinned down.
Piggy Cost so far €123 Donation so far €60 Don't let her name put you off, she just loves 'food'. She had been thrown over a garden wall, the owner of the house took her to the vets and handed her in. Despite her terrifying ordeal and rough treatment Piggy was in pretty good condition and just needed some where safe and loving to recover and now a new home. She is now 7 months old.
Molly Cost so far €182 Donation so far €0 Molly and her young siblings were found early one morning in a bucket outside a school. They had been deliberately abandoned. Her siblings have all found new homes but Molly is still waiting. She is fun loving and very friendly with people and other cats.
Molly is the tabby one.
