Cats from the Canaries

Special Appeal

At our farmhouse in Fuerteventura, as well as our resident farm cats, we also have many cats that are desperately looking for a new home. Out there we have a serious lack of good homes, you may have read our previous newsletter which mentioned the huge number of owned cats being abandoned when their owners leave the island.

We have started 23 cats on the pet passport scheme, so they can enter the UK without having to go into quarantine. By the 8th February the first 2 cats will ready to come here. This is not our usual way of homing but we are desperate.

It's very expensive to import a pet to the UK, so we are frantically trying to find sponsors for each cats flights.

These cats need and deserve to have a safe and loving home – forever.

If you can adopt one of our special cats into your home, please contact Jenny for more information.

Home checks and an adoption donation apply.

I'm Saul

Male only 2 years old.

Ready for UK entry after February 8th 2010

SAUL

Saul was just 7 weeks old but suffering from malnutrition and cat-‘flu’ when he was caught by our volunteers during our November 2007 trip. He needed a lot of trips to the vet but as you can see he is now a healthy boy. In 2009 he started to fight with some  of our of our timid farm cats, this change in his behaviour is very out of character, he still gets on very well with some of the other cats and actually loves their company. Saul would like to be in a home with other cats as he loves to play, just less timid cats.

Ryan & Saul get on really well and are great buddies.

I'm Ryan

Male, only 2 years old.

Ready for UK entry after June 10th 2010

Ryan was brought into us during our November 2007 trip in a bird cage. He was just 5 weeks old but he had managed to crawl onto someones patio late at night, as well as being alone and so very young he was also very sick. After lots of medication and TLC he grew stronger. He loves a cuddle andis bursting with character andlikes to join in with what ever you doing.

 The Barcelo Club Four

These 4 siblings pictured below came to us around May 2009. They came in with their Mum and 3 other siblings. The kittens were only about 7 weeks old and were all suffering from cat flu. One also had an umbilical hernia and another one of the kittens eye's was so bad that she needed to have one eye removed. In September 2009, Mum and 3 of the kittens were well enough to be sterilised and they were released back to the hotel where they came from.

The 4 remaining kittens, were not strong enough to be released, so Ida, Iddy, Inke and Icle stayed with us and we are now trying to home them.

They have grown into really nice, sweet cats and ooze affection, they would love a home, they can go to a home with cats already or on there own or with a sibling.

They will all be ready for UK entry after June 10th 2010

I'm Rocky

Male, approximalty 2 years old

Ready for UK entry after

 June 10th 2010

Rocky came to us because he was unwell, under weight and living rough. He was tested positive for 'Feline Aids' but he is very healthy and shows no signs of having the condition. He is a very nice friendly cat, who just needs and deserves a special loving home.

I'm Pookey

Male, 8 months old

 !! RESERVED !! F.S.

Ready for UK entry after

June 10th 2010

A hunter brought Pookey to us. The man had wanted to keep Pookey because he is such a nice cat but his hunting dogs would have killed him. One of the dogs did actually attack Pookey but luckily the man was able to save him. He is a fun loving cat, that's laid back and as sweet as he looks in these photo's. He can go with other cats or on his own.

I'm Roger

Male, 2 years old

  !!RESERVED!! A&V.G

Ready for UK entry after

February 8th 2010

Roger had been left behind when his previous owner moved homes, he was so afraid he would not leave his patio and just meowed out of fear. This annoyed the neighbours and nobody was prepared to take him in, so we picked him up. When we took him to the vets to be castrated he noticed that Roger only had 1 dropped testicle the other was still inside his abdomen. As if Roger had not been through enough he suffered irreversible brain damage due to complications during surgery. Despite all this he is a happy inquisative, little cat and deserves a loving home which he would welcome with 4 paws.

I'm Sweep

Female, 8 months old

 !! RESERVED !! L.B.

Ready for UK entry after

June 10th 2010

Sweep came to us at about 6 weeks old. She was found in the streets with two severe bite wounds on her neck, she was very sick and weak. The vet thought she only had a very slim chance of surviving, she spent the first night in intensive care at the vets but she grew stronger each day. She is a little bit shy with strangers but growing in confidence all the time.

 I'm Sooty

Female, 8 months old

Ready for UK entry June 10th 2010

When she was just 6 weeks old, Sooty obviously thought that climbing into a nice warm car engine was a safe place to sleep, until early the next morning the car was turned on by the unsuspecting driver. Luckily Sooty did not get hurt as the engine started but she was extremely thin and crying in fear. She is very timid and needs a special home with no young children but she can go to a home with other cats.

 I'm Pearl

 Female, 6 months old

Ready for UK entry after August 2010

She has been with us since November 2009. She was caught for sterilising during our neutering campaign and we quickly noticed that she has one eye missing and the other is damaged, so her vision is severely impaired. She is a little bit timid but once she feels secure she settles down for a cuddle. Her right eye socket keeps on getting sore and inflamed, although it is not infected. The vet has recommended an operation to stitch this eye closed, to prevent any future problem. Pearl has no vision from this eye already, so the operation can only help to improve her quality of life. Operation is now due to take place the 2nd week of January.

We do not antisipate Pearl having any future problems with her eyes but any vet bills relating to her eye's which may occur after she has been rehomed can be covered by us.

 I'm Vinny

Male and 1 year old

 !! RESERVED !! CM

Ready for UK entry after June 10th 2010

Vinny was living in the garden of a holiday apartment. The guest’s noticed that he continuously meowed and that he had a wound on his side and his skin was actually falling off (see first photo). We picked him up immediately and took him to our vet’s. The vet also noticed that Vinny is deaf. The wound to his side appeared to be from a burn! At first he appeared to be wild but this was just nervousness due to his deafness, he is a very nice, loving cat and get’s on great with other cats.

 Foofey

Male 5 years old

 !! RESERVED !! J.T.

Ready for UK entry after February 24th 2010

Foofey was living rough witha group of adult cats but being fed each day, when his feeder had to move from her home she could not bare to leave him behind. Foofey was tested positive for Feline Aids and because of this he has been confined to our foster cages ever since he came to us in November 2008. He really needs and deserves a new home.

Dyson

Male 2 years old

Ready for UK entry after June 10th 2010

Dyson was found as a stray in April 2009 with a very bad ear infection, the infection was so deep his balance as been affected and to this day he walks with a wobble. He also suffers from diarrhea and despite having many diagnostic tests the vet does not know what is causing it. We are continuing to investigate the problem and hope we find a solution soon. He is very loving, easy going and gets on great with other cats.

Once Dyson is rehomed any related medical problems with his diarrhea which may occur after he has been rehomed can be covered by us.

 !! RESERVED !! CM

Ready for UK entry after August 2010

We don't know how, but his mother had been killed and by the time Hero was found by a little boy he was scarcely alive, he is another the vet thought may not live to see the next day. Hero is a tough little guy and has made a wonderful come back. Hero can go on his own, with other cats or one of his friends Molly or Piggy.

I'm Piggy

Female, 7 months old

!!RESERVED!! T&G D

Ready for UK entry after August 2010

Don't let her name put you off, she just loves 'food'. She had been thrown over a garden wall, the owner of the house took her to the vets and handed her in. Despite her terrifying ordeal and rough treatment Piggy was in pretty good condition and just needed some place safe and loving to recover. Now she really needs a home. She can bit a little bit shyuntil she knows you but she gets on withother cats so we would like her to go to a new home that has already got cats or to a home with one of her friends, Hero or Molly.
